The Rough & Tumble at Brandon Music

Formerly from Nashville, The Rough & Tumble now find themselves living full time on the road, in a 16 ft camper with an 85 lb puppy named Puddle. The folk-Americana duo has been making tire tracks nationwide since 2011, and if you ask Mallory Graham or Scott Tyler how they got here, they'd likely respond, “with careful planning, spreadsheets and shoddy cell phone service.” The camper stops at Brandon Music on November 10.

Monica Rizzio washes into Brandon

Monica Rizzio grew up on a ranch, barrel racing in East Texas. Somehow, many years later, she found herself crossing over the iconic bridges of Cape Cod and seeing the ocean for the first time. The versatile performer now calls Cape Cod home and her album 'Washashore Cowgirl' is completely autobiographical, telling stories from that journey from Texas to the Cape.

Rizzio is currently touring as a duo with guitarist Mark Usher — think Gillian Welch/David Rawlings by way of her Texas songstress sound — and stops at Brandon Music on October 20.

Kosi, live at Brandon Music

Kosi is a New York City based singer-songwriter with nappy hair and jazz roots. Although she always brings just a little drama to her compositions and interpretations, she's more than just a drama queen. She's got piercing eyes and a voice that's larger than her body. But, small as she is, she won't fit in a box. She switches styles more quickly than you can follow; from jazz, to rock, then folk, but never more than a few steps away from the blues. Kosi performs at Brandon Music on September 1.

The trio of seasoned Vermont musicians – David Gusakov, Rick Ceballos, and Matt Witten – infuse 15 th century French country dances and ‘oldtimey' melodies with Celtic music and jazz pieces. The mixed repertoire, according to the Addison Independent, results in a night of music “guaranteed to brush away the blues”, music that is “upbeat, whimsical, delightful”. Julia Mark is  a singer, pianist and songwriter performing jazz-inflected folk/pop, but her songs are unique in their subjects. She writes lyric-driven, optimistically dissonant songs about life on the moon, loss of memory, shifting homes, and palindromes. The Worcester Telegram described her music as "a little quirky, a little dreamy and a little oddly romantic." Brandon, VT -
From the award winning guitarist and composer, Steven Kirby, comes the 'Illuminations' Project to Brandon Music on July 21. It features original compositions and arrangements, as well as some creative arrangements of standard tunes, using a quintet of instrumentalists and a singer performing both wordless and lyrical vocals. The Renee Dion Trio to perform at Brandon Music

Brandon, VT -
Renee Dion's sound has evolved. From her days as a child building tents in her closet, writing poems by flashlight (which later became songs), to a soulful sound that could be heard on music blogs across the web, on albums by alternative soul icons, and in clubs and festivals from her hometown in Columbus, Ohio, to New York City, her music has recently taken one more step in its evolution. What has emerged from a recent musical hiatus is a simmering contemporary R&B/jazz album called ‘HAVEN'. This album breaks free of Dion's normal setting of an external producer-directed album which has allowed her to find her soul trappings and play in an uncharted space musically. Dion performs with her trio at Brandon Music on June 23.

Northern Third Piano Quartet at Brandon Music

Brandon, VT -
The Northern Third Piano Quartet returns to perform at Brandon Music on June 16 for the fifth year in a row with an intriguing program, including an early one-movement string trio by Franz Schubert and “Spiegel im Spiegel” by Arvo Pärt for cello and piano. Dmitri Shostakovich's Sonata for Viola and Piano, completed in the last weeks of the composer's life will also be on the program. It offers a fleeting glimpse into the composer's numerous musical influences throughout his life, including monumental quotes from Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, and from Shostakovich's own earlier works. The quartet will round out the program with one of the most beloved piano quartets. The Piano Quartet in c minor by Gabriel Fauré is the pinnacle of late nineteenth-century French romanticism.
